A Facebook post led to the arrest of a man accused of viciously slamming his brother's dog to the ground, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office. The dog had to be put to sleep.

Brandon Clark, 27, is facing the charge of first-degree animal abuse.

Deputies said they received a complaint on Aug. 5 from someone who saw a Facebook post about a dog being put down by its owner due to injuries it received from being thrown to the ground.

After further investigation, deputies responded to the 28000 block of Scott Mountain Road in Sweet Home.

Witnesses said Clark was angry at the dog, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, because it nipped at another dog while it was eating.

Investigators said Clark picked up the dog and slammed it to the ground so hard, it appeared to break the dog's back and hips.

Clark's brother told deputies he felt it would be best to put the dog down due to the severity of the injuries, according to a sheriff's office report.

Deputies said the suspect and his brother live together.

Deputies said Clark admitted throwing the dog to the ground. Investigators said Clark described the dog as being unable to walk after the attack and said he tried to give the animal some water, but the dog began throwing up.

Clark was booked in the Linn County Jail.
