SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he reportedly shot a suspect during an arrest Tuesday afternoon in Natchitoches Parish.

It happened just after 5 p.m. when members of the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force were in Natchitoches Parish tracking down a man wanted for a shooting in Texas. That shooting happened earlier Tuesday, police said.

When officers found the alleged offender, they tried to take him into custody and a Shreveport police officer fired at least one shot from his department-issued service weapon. Police said that shot hit the man being arrested in the lower body.

The arrestee was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The officer's name has not yet been released per departmental policy.
