EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

An East Texas woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car while riding her bike south of Tyler Sunday morning.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the incident happened around 8:00 a.m. near Farm-to-Market 3052. Janice Terry was riding her bike with a friend when the car struck her. She is in critical condition at a Tyler hospital and underwent surgery this morning.

Friends told KLTV she has a broken back.

"We just want to rally around and just support her and support each other because it's scary for us. The biggest thing is it could have been us. It could have been any of us. Several of us just ran with her and swam with her yesterday, biked with her. And it just hits way too close to home," Jami Dunbar, a friend, said.

Doctors believe she will make a full recovery.
