Police say the suspect's SUV struck a mailbox and crashed into a tree in the 300 block of Fielden St.
Police found the 3-year-old boy in the abandoned SUV.
The boy has been checked out by paramedics, who found that he was not injured.

A hit and run investigation Friday afternoon at a Texarkana apartment complex turned into a high speed chase and crash, and ended with the discovery of a 3-year-old child in the suspect's SUV.
Police say an officer saw the suspect's vehicle strike another car just after 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Georgia Manor apartment complex at College St. & Robinson Rd.
When the officer tried to pull the SUV over, the driver sped away. Police say the vehicle struck a mailbox and crashed into a tree in the 300 block of Fielden St. At that point, the driver got out and ran.
Police found the 3-year-old boy in the car. He has been checked out by paramedics and was not injured.
The man was captured and arrested. No names have been released.
