The countdown is on for the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati.

Major League Baseball and the Cincinnati Reds unveiled a logo Wednesday morning at Great American Ball Park that will be displayed on official All-Star Game merchandise as well as throughout the Queen City.

The game will be played July 14 at Great American Ball Park. In preparation, some of the Reds front-office staff traveled to Minneapolis last July to observe how All-Star events were managed.

Reds president and CEO Bob Castellini, MLB executive vice president of business Tim Brosnan, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and Hamilton County Commission president Chris Monzel were among those in attendance at the unveiling.

Baseball's oldest franchise has housed some of the most decorated players since 1869. Officials called the team's history "one of its most endearing qualities" and said it was the inspiration for the 2015 logo.

"This has been a baseball town for generations," Castellini said. "It's extremely generational here in Cincinnati. Kids leave, go to other cities, take jobs elsewhere. When they call home, the first thing they ask their parents, 'How are the Reds doing?'"

The center of the logo depicts the handlebar mustache and old-style square cap worn by Mr. Reglegs, the team's most traditional mascot. His round head sits on top of the oval-shaped "C."

Official All-Star Game merchandise with the new logo are now on sale at team shops inside the ball park.

The Reds last hosted the All-Star Game in 1988 at Riverfront Stadium.
