TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis was in East Texas Saturday trying to enlist supporters. Her campaign staff and local volunteers gathered to hear Davis speak before engaging voters by knocking on doors and making phone calls.
Today's event kicked off Davis' "Weekend of Action," consisting of more than 500 events including block walks, phone banks and voter registration drives across the state.
Davis told supporters funding for public education would be one of her top priorities as governor.
“I will work as hard as I possibly can to make sure that every child, no matter who they are or where they're from, no matter their gender or their race, or how rich or poor… Every child in this state will have an opportunity to see their dreams realized,” said Davis.
Polls show Davis is continuing to trail behind Attorney General Greg Abbott in the race to become the next governor of Texas.
