TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Four East Texas men charged in a 2013 motel murder appeared separately before a judge Friday for a plea bargain deadline hearing.

Darian Pilkinton, Michael Browning, Broderick Smith, and Lawrence Murphy, all of Tyler, are facing capital murder charges in the death of 26-year-old Wesley Scott Lester. As we previously reported, the state will not seek the death penalty in the case.

Lester was murdered in the early morning hours of June 15 at America Inn Motel in Tyler. He was shot and killed inside his motel room.

The state told the judge each of the four defendants were “really close” to reaching a plea bargain in the case.

The hearings for Pilkinton, Smith, and Murphey were reset to August 22 at 9:00 a.m. Browning’s hearing was reset to August 15 at 1:30 p.m.
