LINDALE, TX (KLTV) -
East Texas police are now investigating vandalism on one of their city's welcome signs which features a picture of their most famous citizen.
Someone has painted a moustache on Miranda Lambert. A picture of Lambert holding her guitar is featured on Lindale's welcome sign. Authorities were not aware the sign had been vandalized.
KLTV's Summer Dashe noticed the moustache on a way to another story. Video-journalist Jamey Boyum reported it to the city's public works director, Henry Rinlee. Rinlee said he hadn't noticed it prior to this.
“They should leave things alone, but I guess not everybody’s a fan,” Rinlee added.
The sign on the north side of town had not been targeted, and by the time I got to Lindale City Hall the word had spread. City Manager Craig Lindholm had just heard about it.
“This is news to the city. We have not had a police report on any vandalism to this sign, so this is news to us, and we’re in the process of investigating it now. I think it’s terrible that anybody would do that. Miranda is extremely important to the city of Lindale and any defacing of her image here, we will take very seriously,” Lindholm said.
Lindale Police Chief Daniel Somes is already looking in to it.
“You have people that represent the city well and that we’re proud of, and someone takes the time and effort to do something like that is very disappointing. Obviously if we find out who did it we will take appropriate action,” said Somes.
Justice of the Peace James Cowart says those responsible will be prosecuted.
“Most people like to brag about things like this, so when we find out who it is, law enforcement will take care of it and hand it to the court and we’ll take care of it,” Cowart stated.
Someone will pay a big price for a joke that no one thinks is funny. The person responsible may be arrested and could face a state jail felony if damages exceed $1,500.
The other two Miranda Lambert signs in Lindale were not vandalized.
