Mark Sweeney will be moving to Shreveport to begin his role October 1. He was one of four candidates the MPC board interviewed at a public meeting on July 23.
According to a news release, he has many years of experience in public and private-sector planning.
The position was vacated in January when long-time executive director Charles Kirkland retired. MPC chair Lea Desmarteau said the board has great expectations for Sweeney.
"We plan to take full advantage of his extensive work experience with elected officials, the business community, neighborhood groups and planning professionals," Desmarteau said.
Sweeney said in his interview that he looks forward to helping implement elements of the Master Plan and contributing to the Unified Development Code.
