Merritt Landry gets clean slate, back pay

The Marigny homeowner who shot an unarmed teenager on his property last year and was subsequently suspended from his job with the city is getting a clean slate at City Hall and back pay.

Our partners at | The Times-Picayune report that a week after the district attorney refused to prosecute the case, Merritt Landry's supervisor told him that his three-month suspension would be erased from his personnel file and that he was entitled to back pay, including benefits.

Landry shot Marshall Coulter in July 2013 after the teen hopped a fence at his home in the middle of the night. When DA Leon Cannizzaro decided not to pursue charges, Landry's attorney said he hoped it was the beginning of a return to normalcy for his client.
