One lane is closed on I-20 westbound at mile marker 7 where the crash happened. The lane was closed before the crash for roadwork underway in that area.
Shreveport Police say there is not concern that the bridge will collapse.
The walkway is roped off to prevent foot traffic. It's unknown how long the interstate will be down to one lane. There are no plans to close more lanes on I-20 during the Tuesday morning commute.
The dump truck involved in the crash is an E and G truck contracted to do work by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development vehicle. Police say the driver did not have the back part of the truck seated. That caused the truck to hit a steel beam as it attempted to drive underneath the bridge.
As far as the structure damage, the steel beam is bent and the walkway flooring partially crumbled. Access to the walkway will remain closed while engineers determine how to repair the bridge damage.
DOTD engineers and an inspector remain on scene, as well as Shreveport Police, Shreveport Fire and a State Police officer.
The dump truck driver was not injured in the crash. There's no word if any citations will be issued.
