SABINE PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

The remains found in a burned out Sabine Parish home last week in what police are investigating as a homicide have been positively identified, and the preliminary autopsy indicates that the victim did not die as a result of the fire.

Sabine Parish Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers says DNA taken from the remains confirm they are those of James Paul Green, 49.

Green's body was found in the kitchen area of his charred home on 4L Drive in Fisher on July 18, the morning after firefighters were called there to put out a blaze that left it heavily damaged. The body was found the next morning after the flames flared up again. His car was missing, and was later found in Zwolle off of LA 120. Investigators say it showed evidence that someone had tried to set it on fire, and blood was found on the center console and around the passenger seat.

According to Sabine Parish Warden Joe Dewil, preliminary autopsy results indicate Green's death was not caused by the fire. Rivers says the cause of Green's death has been determined, but that information has not yet been released as the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office investigation continues. No arrests have been made.

A prayer vigil for Green is set to get under way Friday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at his home.

His funeral has been set for next Saturday in the Zwolle Auditorium at 11 a.m. It will be open to the public.
