New outage in Bossier Parish plunges 9,600 SWEPCO customers into the dark

BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A new power outage in Bossier Parish plunged more than 9,600 SWEPCO customers into the dark just after 9 p.m. Thursday.

According to SWEPCO spokesman Scott McCloud, the exact cause of the outage is not yet known, but it has resulted in the "lockout" of 3 substations that transmit power to customers in Bossier Parish. McCloud says something got into the 138,000 volt transmission line coming from that Lieberman natural gas power plant on Caddo Lake in Mooringsport that feeds into Bossier Parish.

A crew has been dispatched to check on the cause. While the outage is new, McCloud says it's possible that the "something" that got into the high-voltage transmission line is a tree or debris from Wednesday's storms. While McCloud didn't say exactly how soon power will be restored.

Power had been restored to all but around 5,000 customers in Caddo Parish and 700 in Bossier Parish before the new outage occurred Thursday night.
