SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Power has been restored to most of the ArkLaTex residents in the dark, but some will have to wait until Saturday for electricity. Wild weather swept through the area, toppling trees and spawning power outages for nearly 70,000.

As of 7 p.m. Friday, power had been restored to all but just over 1,100 SWEPCO customers, with 700 of them still without power in Caddo Parish.

More than 300 additional SWEPCO workers from six states were brought in to help with the outages. The company estimates that power will be restored to 95 percent of their customers by 12 p.m. Saturday.

Specifically, Bossier City customers should have power by 5 p.m. Friday, and Shreveport customers should have power by 12 p.m. Saturday. Power has been restored to customers in Bossier Parish. Another 431 remained without power in Sevier and Hempstead counties in Southwest Arkansas.

Power had been restored to all but around 5,000 customers in Caddo Parish and 700 in Bossier Parish before the new outage occurred Thursday night that put an additional 9,600 customers in the dark.

SWEPCO reminds customers to stay away from all wires, because they could be hot. The company also says that residents should check their weatherheads for damage and have an electrician repair them before power is restored. SWEPCO also urges all customers to practice generator safety.

Check out the latest power outages on the SWEPCO website. The list is updated several times per day.
