Shreveport horse injured before hit by car, owner cited

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A horse that was hit by a car earlier this week had injuries before being bumped on the road.

The equine, named Sugar, was taking a teenage rider along the 1500 block of Clover Street at the intersection of Dowdell Street Monday evening when a green Ford Expedition allegedly struck it.

Sugar had minor injuries to her right side around her knee. Police called for a veterinarian to because the animal appeared to be emaciated.

According to Shreveport police, the horse's owner, Jerry Thomas of Shreveport, has been cited for animal neglect simple cruelty due to Sugar's condition.

The case has been turned over to the Louisiana Livestock Commission. Sugar is still with her owner for now.
