EL DORADO, AR (KSLA) -
A South Arkansas man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for receiving child pornography.
Shannon Ross Griffin, 45, of El Dorado, Ark., was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by supervised release for life for possessing the images.
Agents executed a search warrant for child pornography at Griffin's home on September 11, where they seized two computers and other digital storage devices. A forensic examination revealed he had 647 images and 69 video depicting sexual assaults of children on the devices.
Griffin admitted to downloading the images and videos.
“Today’s sentence is a reminder that we will not rest in our efforts to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who abuse our children," U.S. attorney Conner Eldridge said in a news release. "Crimes such as these are horrendous and inexcusable."
"Every time a video or image involving sexual abuse of children is downloaded or viewed, these children are re-victimized," Eldridge added.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The sentencing took place before Judge Harry F. Barnes in the United States District Court in El Dorado.
The case was brought about as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
