Shreveport police have three suspects in custody after a rifle was stolen out of a vehicle Wednesday morning, thanks to the observation of a watchful resident.
Around 5 a.m. police responded to a home in the 4400 block of Norway Drive. When they arrived, they learned a rifle had been stolen out of a vehicle.
Police received a call around 4:15 a.m. from a passerby who reported a person riding a bicycle in the 300 block of Pierremont Road with a rifle on the back of it. The passerby also said the suspicious person was sitting outside a home for an extended period of time.
After a brief foot chase, police caught the man on the bike and two others. Devan Austin, 20, 18-year-old Avan Austin and 17-year-old Jabvari Green were arrested.
Once officers caught the men, they learned multiple cars in the area had been burglarized in the 4400 block of Norway Drive and in the 400 block of Gloria Drive. Officers say items stolen from the vehicles were found on the men. The stolen rifle was found just a few blocks away near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Eerie Street.
The three suspects were charged with simple burglary, and officers say additional charges may be added if they link the men to additional property crimes in the area.
