CONWAY, NH (WHDH/CNN) – At a North Conway, NH condominium complex, police say the Hernandez family wants privacy, nearly two days after now 15-year-old Abigail was reunited with her family.
Family friend Amanda Smith says she talked with Abigail’s mother over the phone.
“She’s just relieved,” Smith said.
Abigail’s mother reported the teen missing nine months ago when she wasn’t home after school. The call touched off searches, brought in the FBI and Abigail’s face was plastered on billboards all over New England.
In December, police said the family received a letter from Abigail, but investigators said they were still worried about her safety. Abigail’s mother spoke to her daughter in December in a public plea.
“Please stay strong… [I] truly, truly miss you,” mother Zenya Hernandez said.
Now, more than six months after that plea, police say mother and daughter are together again.
In a statement, investigators say “the facts and circumstances surrounding Abigail’s disappearance continue to be actively investigated.”
Smith organized vigils and a constant internet call for Abigail’s return. She says she’s not anxious for answers.
“The only this [is] that she’s home,” Smith said.
