TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

Dog and master are back at home after a wreck last week sent the owner and canine companion for medical treatment.

You could hear Zeus, a red-nosed pit bull, crying in pain after the 18-wheeler he was riding in was involved in a crash last week on I30 at Kings Highway.

The truck driver, Roger White of Indiana, reportedly tried to avoid hitting another vehicle on the highway when the wreck happened. White was taken to CHRISTUS St. Michael hospital in Texarkana and Zeus was left in the care of the Westridge Animal Clinic.

"So all we could do was give him something for pain and keep him comfortable until we could get him wrapped the next morning," said Misty Osborne of the veterinary clinic.

Zeus was reunited with his family over the weekend and is now back at home in Lawrence, IN. Dusty White, Roger's son, said both dad and dog are doing well, thanks to the help they received from ArkLaTex emergency responders.

"They went above and beyond to make sure the dog was comfortable and treated right," he said. "And that means the world to us because normally when pit bulls come in they already get subjected because they are pit bulls. Didn't even think about putting him down."

Osborne said Dusty's compliments were a welcome encouragement.

"Kind of like getting a pat on the shoulder," she said. "It makes us feel good and we love doing it."

Dusty said Zeus has been a traveling partner for his dad for the past seven years. The dog suffered a broken leg and will need further medical treatment.

"They will either have to put a plate in his leg or he could possibly lose his leg depending on how bad the break is there," Dusty said.

Roger's injuries were not life threatening, just major cuts and bruises, Dusty said.
