David Haak, candidate for Texarkana, Arkansas mayor
TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -
A former face in Texarkana, Arkansas politics has thrown his hat into the race for city mayor.
Monday morning, 65-year-old David Haak officially announced that his name will be on the Nov. 4 ballot. Haak served on the city board from 1996-1998. He served as Arkansas state representative from 1999-2004.
With family and friends looking on, Haak said one of his main reasons for running is to unite the city's board of directors.
"Because of the divisiveness, we have a faction here," he said. "We have two factions that are at a loggerheads so we need to get together as a board.
"The board has to work together for the good of the city," he went on to say. "It needs to be done in a unanimous decision."
Official filing begins July 25 and ends at noon on Aug. 15. Incumbent Mayor Wayne Smith has indicated he will seek reelection.
