SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Police are investigating an early morning shooting that injured a man in west Shreveport.

Police were called to the 2600 block of Claiborne Avenue just after 5 a.m. for a report of a shooting. They arrived to fine one man with a gunshot wound to the face. The man, whose injuries were considered non life-threatening, was treated on scene by paramedics from the Shreveport Fire Department.

Detectives who were called to the scene to investigate say they gathered information that indicated that the victim, identified as 19-year-old Javoria Sherman, along with another man, 20-year-old Jamaria Cornelious, were inside a vehicle parked at the Cajun Inn when a male armed with a shotgun reportedly opened in their direction.

Police say that it was during this time that Cornelious began to exchange fire with the shotgun wielding suspect.

Following the exchange of gunfire, the unknown suspect fled the scene.

Authorities located and seized two weapons at the scene, both believed to have been used in the crime. Investigators, during their probe of the incident, arrested and charged Cornelious with a single count of illegal use of a weapon for his alleged role in the incident. Cornelious was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. As the investigation continues to unfold, detectives expect more arrest to be made.
