NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A television station has aired video appearing to show people snorting drugs in an area of the New Orleans jail where incoming inmates are processed.

WWL-TV did not identify the source of the 30-second video.

Sheriff Marlin Gusman's office said Friday it did not have access to the station's video and could not comment on its authenticity or origin.

Gusman issued a statement saying deputies cannot strip search inmates in the intake areas, under a longstanding court settlement.

Also Friday, a federal court-appointed monitor overseeing jail reform efforts said Gusman's office has failed to hire consultants and purchase equipment required in an April agreement. Gusman's office cites a lack of funding from city government. The monitor said the Sheriff's Office knew what funding was available when they made the agreement.
