(RNN) - A passenger believed to be boarding the Malaysia Airlines flight that was shot down in eastern Ukraine posted a photo of the doomed plane with the caption "In case it disappears, this is what it looks like."

Cor Pan, who is from the Netherlands, posted the photograph to his Facebook page. His caption references Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 which disappeared in March. Officials believe it crashed into the Indian Ocean.

Airline nor Dutch officials have confirmed if Pan was a passenger on the plane.

However, the thread of comments below the picture start with friends wishing Pan and his girlfriend Neeltje Tol, a happy vacation. As the news breaks, commenters hope that the couple isn't on the plane. The most recent comments turn the page into a memorial, and are filled with sadness, telling the couple to rest in peace.

The flight originated in Amsterdam on Thursday and was en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and U.S. officials believe it was shot down. The flight was carrying 298 people, all presumed deceased, 154 of whom were Dutch.

It's not yet know how many passengers were from the U.S.
