BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -
A toddler struck by a vehicle in Bossier City Thursday morning as her father pulled out of the driveway has died of her injuries.
It happened in the 600 block of Rome Dr. just before 10 a.m. Police say the father, 27-year-old Damion Dacaldacal had just gotten done getting his three children into the back of his pickup truck as he prepared to take them to daycare when he went back to the house to lock it up.
It was at that point that police believe his 14-month-old daughter had crawled out and walked to the front of the truck. Dacaldacal went back to the truck and didn't notice his daughter was no longer in her car seat. Police say Dacaldacal went to pull out of his driveway and accidentally ran over his daughter.
Police and EMS were called to the scene and the little girl was rushed to University Health as paramedics continued CPR, but the she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Neighbor Larry Perry was outside of his home across the street from the incident, he witnessed the tragic event and dialed 911, "They were just screaming and crying, that's all they could do I guess," said Perry, who spent the morning at the police station giving witness statements.
According to Perry, once the dad realized what had happened to his only daughter, he became hysterical with grief, even punching his truck. "He put some mighty big dents with his fist, screaming and everything else," said Perry.
All Perry could do was hold his neighbor, while he and his two sons cried, as emergency crews did all they could. "I know he loves her because he has bought her everything in the book," he said. "They had a party over here last week, he had one of those jumping deals, they were having a ball. I know it is going to hurt him bad."
Perry explained his heart goes out to the family during this tough time, "Put it all in God's hands, that is all I can tell him. Whatever happens, God will take care of it."
A chaplain was called in to counsel the distraught father and family at the scene. Police are investigating, but charges are not expected.
