Minden's former fire, police chief dies

MINDEN, La. (AP) - Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday for Thomas Cameron "T.C." Bloxom Jr., former police and fire chief of Minden.

Bloxom died at his home Saturday after a lengthy illness. He was 84.

According to Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, Bloxom joined the Minden Fire Department as a volunteer at age 14, serving 63 years - the last 37 as chief.

At age 27, he began working at the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office, retiring 26 years later as chief deputy sheriff. In 1990, he came off a self-imposed retirement to run for police chief. He won on the first ballot and retired five terms later in 2010.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/1kpIFbU ) services are at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory cemetery.
