MANDEVILLE, La. (AP) - A state official says that if all goes well, the popular cabins at Fontainebleau State Park should be ready for rental early next year.

The cabins have been closed since August 2012 because of extensive damage from Hurricane Isaac.

Regis Bergeron is project manager for the state Office of Facility Planning and Control. He told New Orleans CityBusiness ( ) that bids were opened July 1 and a contract will be awarded by the end of the month. He says the contract should become final in September, allowing construction to start.

The request for proposals called for the work to be completed in 150 days.

State records show that Strategic Planning Associates of Metairie was the apparent low bidder at $960,000. Four other bids went as high as $1.7 million.
