Shreveport man convicted in 2010 slaying

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A Caddo Parish jury convicted a Shreveport man Thursday of second-degree murder in the July 2010 stabbing death of a man whose body was discovered in a Shreveport hotel room.

The Times reports ( ) Demario Thomas will be sentenced Aug. 11. He faces a mandatory life in prison sentence.

Thomas did not testify at his trial.

Prosecutors said DNA evidence left on a knife used in the stabbing connected Thomas to death of Gregory Scott Bowers.

Prosecutors say an autopsy showed Bowers was stabbed more than 50 times.

Prosecutors say robbery was the motive in Bowers' death.
