Mom of wounded toddler speaks out against violent shooting

NEW ORLEANS, (WVUE) -

LaTasha Thompson has not left her little girl's side since she was shot.

"This is nothing any parent should go through, especially with a little bitty baby. She is only three years old," Thompson said. "She's just laying there. I never got shot in my life and I can't imagine how my child feels right now and I can't do nothing."

Nat'Tasha Thompson, 3, also known as ‘Minnie,' was playing in her driveway when police said two gunmen walked up to a crowd of people and started shooting.

Nat'Tasha was shot in the back. Two others, a 15-year-old and 16-year-old, were also hit.

"They went with my niece back there. They were playing basketball and was their first time back there. They didn't even know the guys that shot them. They say the guys walked up on them and just started shooting everywhere," Kenneth Elliot said.

Elliot is the grandfather of the 16-year-old and the uncle of the 15-year old.

"They shot my grandson through his stomach and his butt and my nephew was shot in both legs and his butt," Elliot said.

Elliot says his grandson is still in the hospital and is undergoing a second surgery because of complications.

"These young guys with these guns, they need to do something about it. It's getting out of hand," says Elliot.

It is not the first time Thompson's been touched by violence.

Nat'Tasha's father was murdered in the Hollygrove neighborhood back in 2010 while Thompson was pregnant. Now, she is hoping her little girl will be able to recovery.

Police say the shooters escaped from the scene in a 2008 white Nissan Murano.

If you know anything that could help police catch the shooters, call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
