Landers Athlete of the Week: Falyn Holmes - July 9th

Posted: Updated:
To some obstacles are just there to make you appreciate your success. Falyn Holmes, a 12 year old Greenacres Middle School student, believes that.  She says that's why nothing will block her road to the top.

It would easy to tell you about Falyn's 4.0 grade point average or about her being a two-sport athlete but to truly appreciate her accomplishments you must first know her journey.

"Falyn has really done well and overcome some learning problems and I see strides in her everyday," said Falyn's step father Miles Gilbert.

Falyn said "Through the years I've tried harder and I've come up to this level and I'm very excited."

Falyn struggled with Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD, throughout much of her childhood but has been able to break the chain of disability while also breaking horses as an assistant trainer at the Hurricane Bluff Training Center in Benton.  "I like them because they are neat," she said as she brushed one of her horses.

With her training horses, playing softball, playing soccer, playing in the band and maintaining average an A average, you'd think Falyn would be soaking up a the summer break but that's not the case.  "I'm looking forward to going to school because in 7th and 8th grade you get to try out for sports and I want to do basketball and I want to do the softball team and I want to do the track."

Gilbert added, "She doesn't want to miss a game or anything and it all comes back to she wants to strive to do better and she's done really good."

It's clear no barrier, roadblock or limitation will prevent Falyn from her goals, she's shown that.  Falyn Holmes was an easy choice for this week's Landers Dodge Chrysler Jeep Athlete of the Week.

"I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, my grandmothers and all my teachers that have helped me over the years.  Thank you," she said as she accepted the trophy.
