Mombacho Lodge, just 20 minutes from bustling Granada, Nicaragua, is a new eco-lodge where guests stay right in the middle of the Mombacho Nature Reserve. Modern cabins are nestled among giant trees halfway up the volcano.

Granada, Nicaragua (PRWEB) July 08, 2014

Mombacho Lodge is a new eco-lodge just 20 minutes from Granada. Mombacho Lodge provides tourists with modern conveniences in a natural setting halfway up Mombacho volcano, yet is still close to all the areas other attractions.

New to the Granada hotel scene this year, Mombacho Lodge is about to finish up their first year. According to Cynthia Hoen, who manages the day-to-day operations, things are looking good. Any new hotel in this area is challenged to give guests something a bit different, and that has been the key to our success. We are close enough to Granada so its not much different than having a room in the city if you want to tour Granada or the other local attractions along with your nature fix. But we are in a really unique setting; we are right in the middle of the forest on the volcano where it is quieter and cooler by 10 degrees, so you can have the best of both worlds, says Hoen.

At the lodge guests have private cabins, spaced just within sight of one another, so there is privacy and the feeling of being in the forest. Guests eat in the main lodge building, and Hoen keeps the meals a bit more typically American with local touches, like fruits picked on the grounds and fresh local fish, rather than what they will typically get in Granada. Quite frankly, the rave reviews on the food surprised me, says Hoen. She says she knew the food had to be good, but she says it has turned out to be a big plus. For more on that, see the reviews on Trip Advisor or visit http://www.mombacholodge.com.

Nature is the big draw at the lodge. Since it is half way up the volcano, guests can easily walk the twenty-five minutes up to the coffee plantation and, if so inclined, can catch the truck all the way to the top of the Volcano, which is in the cloud forest.

The lodge is on the so-called monkey highway, a network of tall trees the monkeys use to travel about the forest. Hoen says two local troops of monkeys come through two or three times a day, so guests can get a good look at them feeding right above in the trees. Jorge Munoz, one of Hoens local guides and all-around lodge helper, says it is fun to watch the reaction of people as they go on the night hike and see animals not seen in the day. Its a pleasure to see people get excited about the things they see up here on the place where I live, he says.

Hoen says getting the word out about the location of the lodge and its proximity to all the tourist attractions in and around Granada has been the biggest challenge. They find it hard to believe we are so close to Granada, but in such a different setting, she notes. She says the combination of private cabins with all the amenities of a nice hotel room, including hot water, a first class restaurant, and the natural setting, will help the Mombacho Lodge carve out its niche in the Granada tourist market.
