HAUGHTON, LA (KSLA) -

A Haughton police officer reportedly lost control of his cruiser and crashed into traffic while he was responding to a call Saturday morning.

State police said Officer David Hamm hit three other vehicles about 10:30 a.m. on Hwy 157 South near the Pilot Truck Stop in Haughton.

According to Sgt. James Anderson with the Louisiana State Police, the officer was responding to a call for assistance from Bossier Parish EMS with a subject who had become combative while in the back of an ambulance. When Hamm topped a hill and came up on traffic that was stopped at a light, he tried to dodge them, but lost control of his car. The vehicle went sideways, striking the other vehicles.

Hamm was taken to University Health Shreveport with  a broken leg, two fractured ribs, broken teeth and a concussion. He was listed in good condition as of Monday afternoon.

There was one person in each of the vehicles that were hit. Each reportedly suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the local hospital.
