Victims identified in fatal Caddo Parish ATV crash

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - The young woman who died of injuries suffered as a result of an ATV wreck in northern Caddo Parish Friday night has been identified.

A criminal investigation into the crash that killed 23-year-old Courtney Kenny of Monroe is under way because alcohol is believed to have been involved.

Kenny was a passenger on 4-wheeled Polaris Ranger driven by Nicole Arbour, a 22 year-old from Mandeville. The second passenger has been identified as 22 year old Lauren Pigeon. Both survived the non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to University Health in Shreveport. Kenny was taken to Willis Knighton Bossier, where she died.

It happened around 7 p.m. on a dirt road in an open field on private property in the 4600 block of Dixie-Shreveport Road. According to Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office crash investigator Lt. Michael Gray, it appears Arbour took a curve too fast, but speed may not have been the only factor. "The incident involved alcoholic beverages and the operation of a motor vehicle, so there's a criminal investigation into the events that occurred tonight," says Lt. Gray. He says they will move forward with the investigation once they get the results of toxicology tests.

Gray says the sheriff's office executed a search warrant late Friday at University Health Center to get a blood specimen on the driver of the ATV.

"It's important for people to understand that DWI and vehicular homicide statutes do not only apply to public roadways. There there are some differences in the fact that you don't necessarily lose your drivers license if an incident occurs off-road, but DWI and vehicular homicide are something that's involved in a situation where somebody's hurt or killed, whether it be in a watercraft on a river or lake or pond, or whether it's on a public roadway, or if it's an ATV or a 4 by 4 operating on private property. If people are impaired by drugs or alcohol and somebody is hurt or killed, there is significant consequences."
