N. Shreveport home damaged in 4th of July fire

A Shreveport home in the Cherokee Park area sustained heavy damage after a fire Friday on the July 4 holiday.

Firefighters arrived at the home in the 400 block of Mayfair Avenue, which is off of N. Hearne Avenue in North Shreveport, and saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the attic shortly before 3:20 p.m.

The owners were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape without injury. A neighbor alerted them to the fire at called 911.

It took six units and 20 firefighters 14 minutes to get the fire under control. Fire officials estimate the damage to total $20,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
