KSLA News 12 Editorial: July 3rd-Independence Day

As another holiday arrives, we urge you to take a few moments to reflect on the courage of our forefathers more than two centuries ago.

The signers of the Declaration of Independence, some of whom were not even born in America, put their lives at risk by standing up and declaring independence from Britain.

This year once again, the 4th will be celebrated much like the 1st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; when there were speeches, prayers, parades, music and plenty of fireworks.

Along with the celebrations should come this reminder. For all the criticism and arguments and complaints there is no better place than the United States. Our country is a beacon of light, a beacon that stands for  freedom and liberty and opportunity. A country that is still the envy of the world.

So, on this July 4th count your blessings and be proud to be an American.

I'm James Smith.
