SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A man accused of fatally shooting a Shreveport man nearly two years ago will soon learn his fate in a Shreveport courtroom.

KSLA News 12 has learned that both the state and the defense have rested their cases in the second-degree murder trail of Joseph Butler, 37. The trial is expected to resume Tuesday.

Butler is accused of shooting 51-year-old Larry Patterson on Dec. 21, 2012.

When police arrived at the home in the 3300 block of Milton Street shortly after 7:15 p.m. on that night, they say Patterson had been shot multiple times. Police say the shooting was sparked by an argument.

Officers say Patterson was shot inside the residence that the two shared and Butler had fled the scene. Patterson was pronounced dead a short time later.

Butler surrendered to authorities without incident hours after the shooting occurred.
