Police have arrested a man they originally suspected had killed a Shreveport woman at her home last weekend.
Arthur Washington, 67, was charged with shooting 55-year-old Ruby Barnette Sunday afternoon at the home on Sidney Street in the MLK neighborhood.
Detectives initially detained Washington and questioned him about the murder. Later in the investigation, they found information that solidified to them that he was the shooter.
The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. Barnette was shot once in the chest, then taken to University Health Shreveport where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, information gathered during the early stages of the investigation suggested a verbal argument had broken out between parties inside the home. It then turned physical and led to weapons being produced.
Investigators do not believe Barnette was the intended target of the shooting and suspect she many have been shot during a struggle over a handgun.
Washington was charged with manslaughter and is being held at the Shreveport City Jail. No bond has been listed.
