NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A Red River Parish man wanted for attempted murder in Natchitoches was brought in by deputies Sunday afternoon in Northwest Louisiana.

Kenneth Dewayne Smith Jr., 30 of Coushatta, was apprehended by Red River Parish Sheriff's deputies just after 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Meeks Road. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office said he was arrested without incident.

Smith is charged with first degree attempted murder after an early Sunday morning shooting near the Fairview Alpha community in north Natchitoches Parish.

That's where NPSO deputies were called around 4:30 a.m. for a reported shooting on a logging road off of Messick Road near Fairview Alpha. Deputies said the shooting victim was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Smith will be booked into the Red River Parish Detention Center on those charges, and then transferred to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. Bond has not been set.

The investigation is currently continuing and will be turned over to the NPSO.

The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office was also involved in the apprehension.
