BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -

McAdory firefighters are celebrating the opening of their new Fire Station 1 and they want to share it with the community.

The fire department is hosting a dedication and open house on Saturday, June 28. The dedication is at 10 a.m. and the open house runs until 3 p.m.

McAdory Volunteer Fire Department began in 1983 and became a fire district in 2004. The department has operated out of its small, original building until recently.

The firefighters did much of the construction work on the new station themselves.

Chief Jeff Wyatt says the department's call volume has grown significantly over the past 15 years, with lots of growth in the area.

Wyatt says the community will benefit from this new station. He says the location, just off I-459, is accessible, and there is also a classroom where the community can receive safety training.

McAdory Fire Station One is located at 5944 Pocahontas Road in Bessemer.
