BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A nonprofit organization honoring a fallen Alabama Marine is helping a disabled veteran to live a fuller life.

The Support Our Soldiers organization was started to honor Thomas Rivers. Rivers was a U.S. Marine and graduate of Briarwood Christian School. He died while fighting in Afghanistan when he was 22-years-old.

On Tuesday, officials with SOS awarded a customized track chair to Roderick Jordan, of Pell City, a disabled veteran. The track chair is designed so that Jordan may move more independently than if he were using a standard wheelchair.
