Butler County Sheriff's Office officials are warning residents about a scam involving security systems.
According to the sheriff's office Facebook, they are looking into an incident where a man went to a house and asked a resident if the resident was still using a ADT Security. The man also wanted to look at the resident's key pad.
The man told the resident that it was an older key pad and it should be replaced.
The resident agreed and a second man came in to replace it at a charge of $54.99 The second man said they were with AP security and in competition with ADT. The sheriff's office confirmed with ADT that this was a scam.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone who encounters someone wanting to check their security system to notify the department immediately at 334-382-6521 or call 911.
