SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police have arrested two men who were caught taking boxes off of a dollar store delivery truck in the Cedar Grove neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Police say they got the call around 2 a.m. after a witness reported seeing two people carrying boxes off of a truck outside a Family Dollar store on 84th Street. Police say the two criminals were allegedly carrying the boxes to a house on Linwood about a block away. When police arrived, they chased the duo after they spotted them in the area.

Police were able to capture 49-year-old Gerald Davenport. Police say 46-year-old Eric Blackstone escaped into the woods nearby. Police used a K-9 officer to catch Blackstone. Blackstone was treated on scene by Shreveport Fire Department medics for injuries sustained during his attempts to flee.

Police did recover stolen property from the house on Linwood. The property was returned to the store.

Both Blackstone and Davenport were charged with burglary.
