SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Firefighters on the scene of a large fire in Shreveport's South Highlands neighborhood were able to bring the blaze under control by about 1:30 p.m.

A dozen units were battling the flames at a large 2-story home in the 800 block of Ockley Drive. One firefighter was taken to a hospital after becoming overheated.

Firefighters were first called to the scene around 11:30 a.m.

Firefighters have had to pull back from fighting the flames shooting from the roof of the home.

"Anytime you have a structure and a roof that is on fire, becomes unstable,  at which time the entire structure becomes compromised," said SFD Assistant Fire Chief Louis Johnson. "We had members on top of the house, but the rule is that if it's unsafe to be in it, it is unsafe to be on it."

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but officials on the scene said the home is currently being renovated.
