    The fight over Common Core got hotter with dueling lawsuits. On Tuesday afternoon, The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) voted 6- 4 to join a lawsuit filed by parents and teachers against Governor Bobby Jindal. Governor Jindal's administration then filed their own lawsuit.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

A fraternity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been rocked by a second death in two years after one of its leaders was found dead Thursday.

In a release, the UNC Interfraternity Council confirmed that rising senior Harris Pharr of Raleigh “tragically passed away” Thursday night.

"The Interfraternity council was saddened to hear about the loss of one of our senior members, Harris Granger Pharr, Chi Phi class of 2015," Kenan Drum of the Interfraternity Council said in a statement.

Pharr, who went to Broughton High School in Raleigh, was a Chi Phi – the same fraternity that lost freshman David Shannon of Charlotte in October of 2012.

Chapel Hill Police confirmed a UNC student was found dead Thursday but would not confirm the identity of the body found until the next of kin was notified.

The Interfraternity Council, in a statement, said, "At this time, out of respect for his family, we decline to comment on any circumstances surrounding his tragic death. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Pharr family and the brothers of the Alpha-Alpha Chapter of Chi Phi Fraternity. They mourn the loss of a son and brother."

The IFC said Pharr was in Chi Phi, class of 2015. Pharr, according to his LinkedIn profile, graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh after spending his previous time in Jacksonville, Fla.

Pharr's profile said he was studying biomedical engineering. It listed him as rush chairman for Chi Phi – in other words, he was in charge of recruiting new pledges- and said he works as a volunteer coordinator for Habitat for Humanity's David Shannon fund.

The Chapel Hill Police said Sunday they had no more information.

Chi Phi was suspended in November 2013 for "alleged risk management violations including alcohol violations and inappropriate New Member activities."

On Oct. 26, 2012, Shannon, a pledge to Chi Phi, was found dead in Carrboro. Shannon's body was found by friends at the Ready Mixed Concrete Plant. Police said he fell 40 feet when he tried to cross a cable stay after climbing a tower.

The state Medical Examiner's Office said Shannon's blood alcohol level was .22 at the time of this death.
