A SWEPCO transformer blew out filling the sky with a blue glow and caused massive power outage that left thousands of customers in North Shreveport in the dark Thursday night.
Power has since been restored.
SWEPCO tells us it was all caused by an animal that got on a line causing a transformer located at the David Raines substation to blow around 10:30 p.m. Officials say this is not an uncommon incident. However, they are not sure where the animal came into contact with the line to cause that kind of damage.
A blue glow of flames filled the sky after the blow. KSLA News 12 received numerous calls from viewers who saw the glow in the sky. SWEPCO officials say it probably was really noticeable because it happened at night.
SWEPCO confirms there was a small fire but everything is out.
Power was out for more than hour for customers in the Cooper Road area all the way out to customers in Blanchard.
Crews are still working to repair that transformer.
