CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator has been selected to lead the new Caddo Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

A formal announcement of Prator's selection was made on Thursday, with the signing of a new intergovernmental agreement between the sheriff's office and the newly formed COHSEP.

Caddo Commission President Doug Dominik and Prator have been working on this for months after Bossier Parish decided to create its own office. In May, Caddo Parish commissioners approved the creation of the local homeland security and emergency preparedness office, saying that the cost of salaries would be $97,200 for Shreveport, $73,800 for the parish and $9,000 for the sheriff's office.

Prator previously said this appointment would save Shreveport and Caddo Parish $171,000.

Prator has been sheriff of Caddo Parish since 2000. In November, the CB-OHSEP Executive Council decided that a separation of the office would take place on July 1.
