Quick hands, fast reflexes and athletic stature are reasons why goal keeper Madeline Talbot has the advantage in front of the net.

"I was a player in the field at first but then my coach saw that I was the tallest one on the team so he kind of put me in goal," said Talbot.

Since the switch Maddy, as her teammates call her, has transformed into one of the top 15 goal keepers in the southern United States. She has been invited to participate at the U.S. National Camp twice which is hwere only the best players in the country are evaluated as potential players on the U.S. Women's National Team.

"Every day I would train and then I had an ACL injury so I would work back from that for a long time. So it made me work even harder and told me pretty much what I had to work for and how hard I have to work for it."

Coach Mark Matlock called Talbot a true leader.

"She's been a captain for me for the last three years on this team. she sets the example as far as her hard work and the example of focusing in practice and training and taking everything seriously. And that really is contagious with the rest of the team."

Talbot, who also plays at Byrd High School, led the Shreveport United U-15 girls team to a state title at the club level. Its the first time a girls team from the Shreveport area has made it that far. Now Talbot and her team will take a shot at winning a regional tournament in Baton Rouge against nine other states.
