Fatal I20 wreck leaves Shreveport woman dead

A Shreveport woman involved in a car versus 18-wheeler wreck Sunday evening on I20 died from her injuries.

Just before 5 p.m. Shreveport resident Carlos Daniels, 37, was headed west on I20 when he lost control of his 1991 Chevrolet Caprice and hit a concrete retaining wall near the Pines Road exit, police said.

Reports indicate that Daniels may have overcorrected the veering of the car, sending it into oncoming westbound traffic. The Caprice spun out and was then run over by a 2002 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by Elton Munsinger, 60 of Carthage, said SPD Cpl. Marcus Hines.

Lisa Blinks, 35 of Shreveport was a passenger sitting in the front seat of the Caprice. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died from crash-related injuries.

Two children were also in the Caprice at the time of the wreck. Police said Munsinger, Daniels and the children only reported minor injuries.

Police aren't yet sure what caused Daniels to lose control of his car. They don't suspect alcohol as a factor, but mandatory toxicology tests were run on both drivers.

No tickets were issued, and the crash is still under investigation.
