LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

CSI is taking on a whole new meaning at Angelina College this week. High school sophomores are spending the week conducting an investigation into the cause of a car accident while learning about the different work force and health careers like surgical technology, automotive, welding plus police, and fire academies.

It's part of the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs or GEAR UP program where 70 high school students are getting hands-on experience in technical fields.

Jeremy Thomas,  the director of enrollment services at Angelina College said. "The purpose of this is to allow them to experience what these different programs offer them as far as their future careers and not only that introduce them to different categories, so for example, health careers are dominantly female, so we get the guys to participate in this, and welding is dominantly male, so we get the girls to do that as well."

The students will be rotating through the different disciplines through this Thursday.
