SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Family and friends gathered Monday with the parents of a man who died last weekend in a tragic motorcycle accident.

Derrick Hall's parents' home was surrounded by vehicles Monday, a testament to the support his family is receiving. Hall, 23, was killed early Sunday morning after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle near Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway and Shreveport-Barksdale Highway.

His loved ones are struggling to come grips with his death.

"The very fear we feared, came to a reality," said Derrick's mom Annie Hall, who explained she initially worried about her son's safety when he first bought a motorcycle.

She urged him to take a safety class, which he completed.

"That's a bad call for a parent to hear, that they lost a son," said Derrick's father Freddie Hall.

The bad news still hasn't completely sunk in for Derrick's wife of one year Aimee Hall.

"I have to be strong for everyone else, if I'm not strong, no one else will be," she said.

Phillip Durden was a friend of Derrick's through a local motorcycle club. He said his friend was looking forward to his first Father's Day with his 10-month old son Nolan.

"He wanted to ride his bike that night to have a little bit of fun then spend the next day with his son," said Durden.

But the Father's Day card and gift left for him at home is still sitting on the couch, where his wife left it.

"I knew immediately, he wouldn't survive that," said Anthony Williams who claims he saw the whole accident happen.

He said Derrick and another motorcyclist passed in front of him just a minute before Derrick's motorcycle collided with a car.

"They were going so fast, they shook my car," he said.

Williams was one of several drivers who pulled over to try and help Derrick, but it was just too late.

"Yeah I could see him under the car, only his leg was sticking out," he said.

Derrick's parents want to spread an important message that may save others.

"I would think that Derrick would want us to say, 'Be careful,'" said Annie Hall.

She wants the tragedy to be a wake-up call for both motorcyclists and car drivers to pay more attention on the road, to spare others the kind of pain her family is experiencing.

Derrick's motorcycle club has organized a candlelight vigil for 9 p.m. June 19 at the intersection of Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway and Shreveport-Barksdale Highway.
