PREBLE COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Monday that they seized more than $11.6 million of marijuana in Preble County and charged two men in connection to the seizure.

This was the second-largest marijuana seizure in Ohio State Patrol history.

On June 14, troopers stopped a 2014 Ford U-Haul with Arizona registration on Interstate 70. The troopers suspected criminal behavior and used a drug-sniffing dog to smell for drugs.

A search of the U-Haul revealed 84 bundles of marijuana weighing 2,330 pounds.

The driver, Texas resident Mario Mendoza, 29, and passenger Hector Andres Olea-Castro, 30, from Tijuana, Mexico were taken to Preble County Jail.

They were both charged with possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony.

If convicted, they could each face up to eight years in prison and a $7,500 fine.

The largest marijuana seizure in patrol history was in 2005 when troopers seized 3,181 pounds. That was also in Preble County.
